How To Use Where Condition With Select Query In SQL

Introduction

In this article, we will learn how to write a SQL select query with Where condition.

To select data from a database in the SQL SELECT statement is used.

To filter records and extract only those records that fulfill a specified condition, The WHERE clause is used.

We can use SELECT in two ways either select all the fields available in the table or can specify field names of the table from which you want to select data.

1. To select data from all the available fields of the table.

Syntax

SELECT * FROM TABLE_NAME WHERE condition;

Example

The subsequent statement would return data of all available fields in the Article table (Only those records that fulfill a specified condition).

SELECT * FROM Article WHERE Id = 'A2';

2. To select data from specific fields of the table.

Syntax

SELECT column1, column2, ...columnN
FROM TABLE_NAME WHERE condition;

Example

The subsequent statement would return data of the Title field in the Article table (Only those records that fulfill a specified condition).

SELECT Title FROM Article WHERE Id = 'A2';
