In this article, we will learn how to delete an account from Quickbooks online from .NET MVC web application using SDK.
Before using any Quickbooks online API we need access token, if you don’t know how to get access token then you can find it here.
We can not delete account permanently from Quickbooks online, we can only inactive it.
So, if we want to delete any account then we have to inactive it by updating.
We are going to delete the account by its “Name”.
The following are a few steps for the delete(inactive) account.
- First, we have to create a ServiceContext with Auth tokens and realmId.
- For that, we need access token and realmId
- We have to get an account from Quickbooks online by calling Account API.
- We are querying an account by “Name”.
- For querying/get an account we have to define QueryService
- We need to pass a ServiceContext object into QueryService.
- We will get an Account object by querying from Quickbooks online using QueryService.
- After getting an Account object we will change its Active property to false.
- After that, We have to create a DataService object by passing a ServiceContext object as a parameter.
- Add Account object in DataService.Update<Account>() for updating an account.
- It will update(delete/inactive) account and return the newly updated Account object, you can store the required details to the database according to your needs.
- The code is as below.
public ActionResult DeleteAccountByName() { try { OAuth2RequestValidator oauthValidator = new OAuth2RequestValidator(Access_token); // Create a ServiceContext with Auth tokens and realmId ServiceContext serviceContext = new ServiceContext(RealmId, IntuitServicesType.QBO, oauthValidator); serviceContext.IppConfiguration.MinorVersion.Qbo = "23"; serviceContext.IppConfiguration.BaseUrl.Qbo = QboBaseUrl; string EXISTING_ACCOUNT_QUERYBYNAME = string.Format("select * from Account where Name = '{0}'", "Tabish Vision Income Account"); var queryService = new QueryService<Account>(serviceContext); Account ObjAccountFound = queryService.ExecuteIdsQuery(EXISTING_ACCOUNT_QUERYBYNAME).FirstOrDefault<Account>(); //If Account found on Quickbooks online if (ObjAccountFound != null) { //if Account is active if (ObjAccountFound.Active == true) { ObjAccountFound.Active = false; DataService dataService = new DataService(serviceContext); Account UpdateEntity = dataService.Update<Account>(ObjAccountFound); if (UpdateEntity != null && !string.IsNullOrEmpty(UpdateEntity.Id)) { //you can write Database code here ViewBag.IsSuccess = true; } } else { ViewBag.IsSuccess = true; } } return View(); } catch (IdsException ex) { return View(); } catch (Exception ex) { return View(); } }
In Quickbooks online, We can find deleted accounts in the chart of accounts by enabling include inactive from the filter.
